Hindu Calendar — Arunodaya
Android application · com.arunodaya.hinducalendarpanchang
Effective 3 October 2026 · Last updated 3 October 2026
Arunodaya does not ask for your name, email or any account. It shows ads and measures how the app is used, and for those two purposes only it sends data to Google. Everything else — your panchang, your city, your prayer and japa counts — is worked out and kept on your own phone.
Nothing. There are no accounts and no sign-in. We operate no servers, and no information is ever sent to us or stored by us. The sections below describe data collected by Google’s services inside the app, not by us.
The app shows occasional full-screen ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects:
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Advertising ID | A resettable identifier used to select ads and limit repeats |
| Approximate location | Derived from your IP address, to the country or region level |
| Device information | Model, operating system version, language, screen size |
| Ad interactions | Whether an ad was shown, viewed, closed or tapped |
This is handled by Google under its own privacy policy, which you can read at policies.google.com/privacy. You can limit it on your phone under Settings → Privacy → Ads, where you may reset or delete your advertising ID and turn off ad personalisation.
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand which screens are used and whether anything is failing. It records events such as screens opened, along with a randomly generated app instance identifier, device model, operating system version, country and language.
This is not tied to your identity. It contains no name, email or phone number, and nothing you read, recite or count is sent. Analytics tells us that a screen was opened, never which mantra or prayer you chose.
Your settings and counts are saved in the app’s own private storage. Other apps cannot read it, and it is not uploaded to us.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Chosen city | Panchang timings depend on latitude and longitude |
| Language | To keep the interface in English or Hindi |
| Theme | Light, dark, or follow the system |
| Calendar system | Amanta or Purnimanta month reckoning |
| Reminder setting | Whether Ekadashi notifications are switched on |
| Recitation counts | How many times you have completed each prayer |
| Japa counts | Your mala count for each mantra |
Your city is chosen by you from a list. The app does not use GPS and does not request location permission.
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it. You can also clear it from Android’s Settings → Apps → Arunodaya → Storage → Clear data.
Android’s built-in Auto Backup is enabled. If device backup is on, the items above may be copied to your own Google Drive account, so your counts return when you set up a new phone. This is handled by Android and Google; we have no access to it. You can disable it in your device’s backup settings.
| Permission | Reason |
|---|---|
| Internet | Used only to fetch ads and send analytics. The panchang itself is computed on the device and works offline. |
| Notifications | To show the Ekadashi reminder you opt into. Nothing else sends notifications. |
| Vibrate | To pulse once per bead while counting japa, so you can keep your eyes closed. |
| Run at startup | To re-schedule your Ekadashi reminder after the phone restarts, otherwise it would silently stop. |
| Network state Wake lock Foreground service | Required by Android’s WorkManager library, which schedules the reminder. |
The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app carries advertising, so it is not enrolled in Google Play’s Designed for Families programme.
Arunodaya presents calendar calculations and traditional devotional texts for reference. Panchang timings are computed astronomically and may differ by a minute or two, or by local convention, from your regional almanac. Please verify against your own panchang or family tradition before fixing an important observance.
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with an updated date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes on Google Play.
